History

Michael Reid has been playing guitar and performing music for the past 34 years. At age 16, he joined his first band National Velvet, which gained local notoriety for winning a talent search held by the producer of The Kinks.

Over the next few years he went on to elevate the sound of many other area bands including Copperpot and Filomath, bringing his unique style to each project, and opening for such acts as Twisted Sister, Ben Folds, and Gavin Degraw.

Feeling confined by the local music scene at the time, he branched out and landed a gig playing guitar for the incredibly talented Regina Spektor. Michael joined Regina on her U.S. and European tours supporting her acclaimed album, 'Begin to Hope'.

Along the way he also appeared with Regina performing her hit songs "Fidelity", "On The Radio", and "Better" on TV shows including The Tonight Show, Last Call w/ Carson Daly, The Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Good Morning America, and Friday Night with Jonathan Ross in the United Kingdom, and has played large festivals such as Coachella and Bonnaroo.

In addition, Michael recorded an EP with Regina entitled "Live in California 2006", and worked with producer David Kahne on a recording of her song "Better".

In 2008, Michael joined up with Geffen/Interscope recording artist Matt White as his lead guitarist, touring the U.S. and Canada playing arenas as direct support for Sheryl Crow as well as opening for legendary artists Elvis Costello, BB King, and Counting Crows at PBS Soundstage, which aired on AXStv  in 2013. It was during this era he recorded with Lana Del Rey who was doing preproduction at the time for her first album.

But ultimately the past 12 years have been mainly dedicated to teaching professionally at The School of Rock & Beau Monde Guitars, guiding and encouraging his students to hone and perfect their craft.

Mike is elated to share his knowledge and passion of music with his new growing list of students!
